About Beirut

Beirut is the capital of Lebanon and the country’s largest and most populated city. Beirut is on the Mediterranean coast of Lebanon and has a long history, which can still be felt today through the many historic ruins dotted throughout the city.

Climate

In Beirut the climate is fairly temperate throughout the year and the weather in Beirut each April tends to be very favorable as the city reaps the benefits of the Mediterranean climate. The average daily low temperature is 23°C (58°F) with an average daily high of 14°C (58°F) in the month of April.

CME

WISC 2019 will apply to receive Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. Information on CME will be released closer to the meeting dates of 4-6 April 2019.

Coffee Breaks

Coffee Breaks will be provided to all registered attendees.

Currency

The monetary unit is the Lebanese pound.

Dress

Dress for the Symposium is business casual.

Exhibit Hall

A commercial exhibition will take place during WISC 2019.

Getting to Lebanon

Beirut is located at the intersection of Europe, Asia, and Africa so getting here is easy! The Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport (formerly Beirut International Airport) is conveniently located 9 kilometers outside of the city center.

Guests and Children

Delegates are asked to refrain from bringing guests and children to the scientific sessions of WISC 2019. Coffee breaks and other social events will be ticketed.

Hotel & Accommodations

WISC 2019 will be conveniently located in the Phoenicia Hotel, where a room block will be reserved for meeting attendees. Additional Housing Information can be found on the Accommodations Page.

Insurance/Liabilities and Disclaimer

WAO cannot be held liable for personal injuries or for loss of or damage to property incurred by delegates or guests at the WAO International Scientific Conference 2019, including those participating in tours and related events. Delegates and guests are encouraged to purchase insurance to cover loss incurred in the event of cancellation, medical expenses or damage to or loss of personal effects when traveling outside of their own countries.

WAO cannot be held liable for any hindrance or disruption of WISC 2019 proceedings arising from natural, political, social or economic events or other unforeseen incidents beyond its control. Registration of a delegate implies acceptance of this condition.

The materials presented at this continuing medical education activity are made available for educational purposes only. The materials are not intended to represent the only, nor necessarily best, methods or procedures appropriate for the medical situations discussed, but rather are intended to present an approach, view, statement, or opinion of the faculty that may be helpful to others who face similar situations.

Language

The official language of the Symposium is English. All sessions will conducted in English.

Local Time

Beirut falls in the Eastern European Time Zone. At the time of the meeting 4-6 April 2019, Beirut will be on Eastern European Summer Time.

Mobile Phone Policy

Use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited within the scientific session rooms. Please ensure that your mobile phone is silenced while you are in the WISC 2019 meeting rooms.

Outstanding Abstract Awards

Abstracts that scored highly will be awarded with WISC 2019 Outstanding Abstract Awards. Awards will be given at the beginning of the final Poster Session. To be considered for an Abstract Award, please Submit an Abstract.

Smoking Policy

Smoking is not permitted during any WISC 2019 activity or event.

Visa

All visitors to Lebanon must hold a passport that is valid for at least three months from the date of entry to the country. Visitors from many foreign countries will require a visa so please visit your local Lebanese Embassy or Consulate for additional information.
