Urticaria and angioedema (UA) are seen commonly in the allergist's office, and there are no published evaluation and treatment guidelines. Thus, this book, first of its kind, written by an international selection of the most knowledgeable clinicians and scientists in this area, is an extremely useful reference. The first section reviews the pathologic processes, provides details as to the different subtypes (contact, physical urticarias, popular, etc.), causes, hereditary forms, and autoimmune urticaria. After reading these sections, clinicians will have a much better idea as to how to evaluate patients with UA.

The second section of the book focuses on treatment. As I reviewed these sections, every approach I have tried was covered and valuable insights gained. Treatments extended from UA to vasculitis, systemic disorders in which urticaria occurs and to anaphylaxis and related disorders. These sections provide a framework for clinicians to understand how to treat simple and complex patients with these diseases.

I found this book to be a most useful addition to the library and learned something from every chapter. Thus, I recommend it, recognizing that any physician who sees UA will benefit from reading it.
