WAO President, Professor Ruby Pawankar, MD, PhD, speaking at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) 23 April – 4 May 2012 in New York City addressed members of parliament, Ambassadors, representatives of various country missions to the United Nations, academia, civil society and the staff of various UN agencies, on the the need for guidelines, global partnerships, and innovative strategies to reduce the burden of non-communicable disease, especially allergies and asthma. The Emerging Societies Program (ESP) an initiative of the World Allergy Organization (WAO), and the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) joined hands with the Ministry of Medical Services of Kenya, the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation of Kenya, and the Allergy Society of Kenya (ASOK) to organize the 1st World Allergy Training School (WATS) and ESP Delegates Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya 10-11 September 2012.
