Junior Members News - July 2013

After so many months of preparation, EAACI-WAO Congress is finally over. This was our first meeting together with EAACI since our Junior Members Group started, and it became a perfect opportunity to meet and exchange experiences with EAACI Juniors, our “European” homologous.

Several activities were prepared. We had a special Junior Poster Session, on Saturday 22nd, presented exclusively by juniors. Both junior and senior chairs selected the best abstract in each one of the 17 categories, and young winners were announced during the opening ceremony. Congratulations to all of them!!

On Sunday 23rd, a Junior Members Scientific Symposium took place, this time with the topic “Insights into quality of life of patients”, a novel and highlighted subject nowadays. I had the honor of co-chairing it together with Enrico Heffler, now past chair from EAACI Junior Members Group. We enjoyed with high qualified presentations about Quality of life in diverse allergic pathologies, such as respiratory allergy, skin allergy, anaphylaxis, immunotherapy and notification of anaphylaxis death. Congratulations to Sven Seys, Lilit Hovhannisyan, Dario Antolin, Virginia Bellido and Luciana Tanno who demonstrated the high level of young allergists and related disciplines from all around the world.

Young allergists and scientists actively participated on the Congress presenting oral abstracts, discussing posters and joining in sessions. Ves Dimov, an active member from our group, summarized the tweets from EAACI-WAO Congress 2013 by topic and highlighted some great quotes and soundbites in the following link:

During our Business Meeting we became excited in the sense that our first projects had been already approved. Juan Carlos Becerra is doing a great job with a “Monthly Article Summaries” that you can find in our website (Resources) http://www.worldallergy.org/juniormembers/resources/ , which represents the reach of our first aim, and give us courage to go on this way.

After the four exhausting days, I can say that all participants were full of energy and ready for new initiatives!!

Finally, the last day, we were invited to join the Junior Social Event that is prepared yearly by EAACI Juniors. We enjoyed all together in the “Old Fashioned Club”.

I would like to thank WAO and EAACI staff for their support, and all juniors from both societies who made possible a so amazing and successful congress! Specially thanks also to Dr. Ruby Pawankar, who always believe in us and she often present us with kind words. I would like to thank WAO Junior Members Group for being so closed although thousands of kilometres split us, and particularly to EAACI JMG who gave me their sympathy and friendliness.

Looking forward to meeting you again,

Silvia Sanchez-Garcia
