Junior Members News - November 2011
By Guillermo Salamanca, PhD
The XXII World Allergy Congress (WAC 2011) in Cancún is coming up really soon December 4 to 8, and with it the official launch of the WAO Junior Members Group! It has been hard work preparing, but an outstanding experience is in store for our group, and social activities specifically for young attendees. So for those of you who haven’t joined yet, what are you waiting for? Now that a WAO Junior Members Group has been created, we have our own presence established in the World Allergy Organization, and we must take advantage of this opportunity! First of all, just become a member by signing up on the website (www.worldallergy.org/juniormembers), and then after that, find ways to take part in the group!
Participation in the WAO Junior Members Group will give you an opportunity to pursue a leadership role in the specialty and develop a professional worldwide network of junior allergists/immunologists. Young physicians in emerging allergy and clinical immunology societies from all of the world’s regions as a group can become a major force to help promote WAO’s allergy education resources and to liaise with your national societies to optimize the benefits of membership in WAO. In this group, basic science has a presence too. We are all in agreement with the idea of a better understanding among physicians with a more clinical view, and basic researchers with a molecular/cellular view. We need to speak the same language and share knowledge! In my opinion, this is a magnificent opportunity to participate with our “Know How” contribution, interacting with incredible people involved in different allergy fields in an informal and international environment where all type of English accents are tolerated!
“Allergy Uncensored: The WAO Junior Members Group Symposium” will be dynamic – with excellent sessions that will last 15 minutes delivered by outstanding young speakers from all over the world. The sessions will be held on Tuesday, 6 December at 15:00 to 16:30 hours in the Bacalar room of the Cancún Center. Matteo Bonini, MD (Italy) and Silvia Sánchez-García, MD (Spain) will be the Chairpersons. Click here for an overview of the symposium. You will find more information online in the WAC 2011 Scientific Program.
A wide range of social and recreational options will be available in Cancún when the scientific meeting is over. It is a great place for watersports such as water-skiing, snorkeling, windsurfing, white-water rafting, jet skiing, deep-sea fishing or swimming with the dolphins. On land you can hike through the jungle and tour the ancient ruins of Chichen-Itza, Xcaret or Tulum/Xel-ha.
And let me think about some other interesting points… Oh, yes! Don’t forget to watch for more news in the WAO News and Notes and on the WAO Junior Members Group website, because…. more activities are coming soon!
Looking forward to seeing you in Cancun!
