Roy Gerth van Wijk, MD, PhD
Roy Gerth van Wijk (1953) is a member of the WAO Board of Directors and is a professor of Allergology at the Erasmus Medical Center (EMC). He is head of the Section of Allergology in the department of Internal Medicine at the EMC. He is training fellows for the subspecialities of Allergy and Pediatric Allergy.
After graduating at the Medical School of the University of Amsterdam, he received his training as an allergologist at the Department of Allergology in University Hospital Rotterdam. In 1991, he completed his PhD thesis on 'Nasal Hyperreactivity' (Erasmus University, Rotterdam).
He has served as a board member and president of the Netherlands Society of Allergology. As Congress president he organised and hosted the XXIII EAACI Congress in Amsterdam. He was President of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) from 2007-2009
He has served as member of many national and international bodies. He co-authors many consensus papers and guidelines. In 2012 he received the Charles Blackley award for improving the Promotion of the Specialty.
His areas of scientific interest are immunotherapy and immunomodulation, occupational allergy and food allergy.
