Mario Sánchez-Borges, MD, PhD
Mario Sánchez-Borges graduated from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1974 and took a Postgraduate Course in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at that University from 1976 to 1978. He then took a Visiting Investigator position at Tokyo University from working with Prof. Tomio Tada and published papers on new genetic markers of murine IgE (IgH-7 allotype) and the antigen-specific suppression of IgE production by fatty acid-modified allergens.
In 1980, Dr. Sánchez-Borges became Professor at Universidad Central de Venezuela, and Chairman of the Department of Immunology, National Oncology/Hematology Institute. Presently he is Associate Professor of the Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Centro Medico-Docente La Trinidad in Caracas.
He has served as Treasurer, President, Secretary General, Scientific Secretary (two terms), Vice-president, and Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Venezuelan Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
At the Latin American Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology he has been Member at Large, Secretary General and Vice-president, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology (member of the International Committee, Grants in Aid Subcommittee for two terms and presently Member of the Latin American Region Subcommittee), Member of the Collegium Internationale Allergologicum, and the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology.
Presently, Dr. Sánchez-Borges is Member of the Executive Committee of the World Allergy Organization for the term 2012-2013 (Secretary General), where he was Member at Large (2008-2009), and Treasurer (2010-2011). He has published 147 articles in peer-reviewed journals, more than 40 original articles in Spanish language, and has presented 154 original papers in National and International Congresses.
He is presently Regional Associate Editor of the Journal of the World Allergy Organization, and Member of the Editorial Board of Revista Venezolana de Alergia, Asma e Inmunología, Archivos de Alergia e Inmunología, Alergia, and Brazilian Journal of Allergy and Immunopathology.
