WISC 2012 Welcomes Delegates from 70 Countries!
From 6-9 December 2012, in Hyderabad, India, 1,044 delegates from 70 countries came together for the 2nd World Allergy Organization (WAO) International Scientific Conference (WISC 2012). Thank you to those that participated in the scientific program delivered by 90 top speakers from around the world with expertise in allergies and asthma.

The Opening Ceremony began with the Chief Guest, Honorable Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, inaugurating and the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Kiran Kumar Reddy, presiding over the Opening Ceremony by the lighting of the lamp which began the Conference. Honorable Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, delivered the Inaugural Address. Prof. Ruby Pawankar, WAO President and Conference President, gave the Welcome Address highlighting the importance of allergic diseases and the need for it to be included in the non-communicable diseases agenda due to its increasing prevalence, especially in children regardless of their economic status and with a major impact on the quality of life and socioeconomics. Prof. Pawankar called for a multidisciplinary approach involving various stakeholders from high, middle and low income countries to address this global health problem.
The Scientific Program began on 6 December and offered 24 Postgraduate Courses on a wide range of topics. The exciting Scientific Program carried through the Conference with Plenary Sessions, Parallel Symposia, Keynote Lectures, Poster Sessions and Highlights in Immunotherapy. WISC 2012 provided a multidisciplinary forum for allergists, pulmonologists, ENTs, dermatologists, internists, pediatricians, gastroenterologists, clinical immunologists and primary care physicians. Other highlights of the program include 253 abstracts displayed in Poster Sessions and the 5 travel grant awards that were given to WAO Junior Members.
WAO is a federation of 89 Member Societies and is dedicated to providing education and training opportunities to physicians worldwide and supporting their efforts to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with asthma and allergic diseases. Commenting on the Conference, Prof. Pawankar said “WISC 2012 provided a state of the art Conference to improve clinical expertise and scientific exchange throughout the world. It is with successful collaboration and partnerships; we can truly achieve the goal of reducing the burden of allergic diseases and improve outcomes and quality of life for patients with asthma and allergic diseases.” Prof. Pawankar continues by expressing her gratitude, “It is with sincere thanks to everybody who helped to make this Conference a success, and to help WAO expand the knowledge and practice of allergy to professionals around the globe. I am deeply humbled and greatly honored to be the President of the Organization, WAO”.
