Description: The Department of immunology is the central service and research laboratory for Immunologic, Allergic and Rheumatologic diseases in Iceland. Since its establishment in 1981 it has grown considerably. Our mission is to continue our leading role in research, diagnostics, treatment, and evaluation of allergic diseases and immune deficiencies in Iceland. In addition, the department provides a wide range of assays for research, diagnostics, treatment, and evaluation of rheumatologic and autoimmune diseases.
The main functions of the department are the following:
- Service and diagnostic laboratory in our field of expertise, offering a wide range of clinical assays for immunologic, allergic, autoimmune and rheumatologic diseases
- Clinical service for individuals suffering from allergy, immune deficiency, asthma, autoimmunity, rheumatologic and other immunologic diseases
- Education and training of health professionals and students in our field
- Clinical and basic research in our field
