Salvador, Bahia, Brazil: 14 November 2024
The Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunology (ASBAI) hosted its second World Allergy Training School (WATS) in Salvador Bahía, Brazil.
WATS is part of WAO’s Emerging Societies Program (ESP), with the objective to develop learning communities appropriate to a specific regional context while strengthening existing knowledge and skills for treating all allergic diseases. The WATS are made possible through the support of the World Allergy Organization and the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI).
The international faculty included allergy experts from the United States, Brazil, and Mexico. Dr. Dana Wallace (United States) and Dr. Mike Levin are the co-chairs of the ESP/WATS committee and lead the planning committee; which consisted of the WATS faculty and ASBAI organizers: Prof. José Antonio Ortega Martell (Mexico), Prof. Pedro Giavina-Bianchi (Brazil), Prof. Marcus S. Shaker (United States), Prof. Joseph P. Forester (United States), Prof. Ekaterini Goudouris (Brazil) and Prof. Mara Giavina-Bianchi (Brazil).
The WATS agenda incorporated an interactive teaching approach and included lectures om asthma, allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis and urticaria, drug and food allergy, along with workshops, and case discussions.
With an attendance of 50 participants, this has been a very exciting and wonderful experience. Many thanks to all who participated and helped organize this successful event!
