Junior Members – WAO Wants to Know About Your Interests and Needs!

The WAO Junior Members Group will realize its first anniversary in March 2012! We are young, pioneering professionals, and this new group is ours to shape. Our participation as Junior Members not only introduces us to the work done by the World Allergy Organization (WAO) and the resources it offers to its Member Societies; it gives us a chance to be involved in WAO in ways that interest us and to be part of designing the future of WAO’s global outreach, advocacy, research and training work.

But first WAO needs to know what we juniors believe is important to us about the field and what resources we desire or require to excel in our careers and positively impact patient care and quality of life where we work.

So write to us at info@worldallergy.org with the subject line: “Ideas from WAO Junior Members,” and tell us: As an allergist/immunologist, what special interests are you pursuing? What do you most need in information and education resources? Please mention the country of your residence, to help us in creating a global picture.

We are just beginning to make our mark. We hope you will join us.

Start Planning for WISC 2012 – the 2nd WAO International Scientific Conference

In 2012 WAO launched a new scientific meeting to be held during the years without a World Allergy Congress, which is held every other year. The new conferences are intended to focus quite specifically on subject areas of importance to clinicians who see patients with allergic diseases and asthma. This year the 2nd WAO International Scientific Conference (WISC 2012) will take place in Hyderabad, India. The theme of WISC 2012 is:

    Severe Allergies, Severe Asthma:
New Strategies for Optimal Treatment and Preventi

The program will consist of topics that are timely for medical professionals in all regions of the world especially because of the burden of allergic diseases and asthma on children and adolescents. This will be another excellent opportunity for the WAO Junior Members to take part in a cutting edge scientific program, showcase their work, and interact with peers and leaders in the field of allergy/immunology.

So remember to submit your abstracts. Sign up for the conference newsletter, the Hyderabad Insider, and visit the WISC 2012 website regularly, to stay up to date on the latest news about the conference. Watch for more information about special events for WAO Junior Members.

Opportunities to Attend Regional and National Meetings in Cuba This Year

On a personal note, since my country of residence is Cuba, and I am a member of the Cuban Society of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology, a WAO Member Society, I would like to tell you about professional allergy/immunology meetings coming up in my country.

The 3rd Ibero-American Meeting and the 7th National Congress of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Cuba – Alergia 2012 will be held here in Havana, Cuba in June. There will be a special section for juniors in the scientific program! We are planning a Junior Symposium where you will have the opportunity to participate as a speaker, present your most recent research, and share your knowledge and ideas with your peers. You can also exhibit your paper in the poster section, or you can just come to be with us, no paper needed; it's up to you.

The congress will be held at the Riviera Hotel in Havana, Cuba from 5-8 June 2012. The program will highlight the most up-to-date advances in fundamental and practical aspects of allergy and clinical immunology, and provide a good opportunity for interacting with regional allergists, physicians, scientists and other professionals interested in the field.

Location of the 7th National Congress of Allergy and Immunology 5-8 June 2012

For juniors this meeting will be a great opportunity to get to know each other, to meet old friends and to exchange ideas and experiences among professionals in the field and other related specialties. For more details and to register on line, you can visit our main website. If you have any personal questions or want to know more about the Junior Symposium, you can e-mail me at: alexdr@infomed.sld.cu.

Havana, Cuba is a very beautiful city, famous for its architecture and friendly people, and you will find here an atmosphere of cordiality and fraternity. Moreover, each day, after the congress sessions, you can have a great time enjoying activities and experiencing Varadero Beach – one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

I hope to see you in Cuba as well as at future meetings of the World Allergy Organization and greet you as a WAO Junior Member!
