Chris Coleman of ABC Sydney interviewed Professor Ruby Pawankar, President, World Allergy Organization, regarding allergic reactions from food on 8 April 2013. A young patient with food allergy sensitivity was also interviewed.

The Czech Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (CSAKI) is promoting World Allergy Week via a press conference on 11 April and promotion of the logo on their website and the cover-page of their journal, Alergie.
Egyptian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (ESPAI)
The Egyptian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (ESPAI) in collaboration with the Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (PAI) Unit will celebrate World Allergy Week by holding a workshop in the Meeting Hall of the Children’s Hospital, Ain Shams University on Sunday, 14 April 2013. Argentine Association of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (AAAeIC)
The AAAeIC outreach to media this week is resulting in widespread coverage by various press, radio, and online media outlets locally and nationally.
Spanish Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SEAIC)
The Spanish Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology kicked off several activities including interviews with experts from the Society on food allergy topics. Find videos and other information on the society’s special Facebook page, Semana Mundial de Alergia.
Allergy Society of South Africa (ALLSA)
The Allergy Society of South Africa engaged in wide public relations activities for media outreach and many ALLSA members have been interviewed for radio programs on the major stations. The ALLSA website also provides patient education brochures and an anaphylaxis registry among other resources. A special program was held during the week, and a link will soon be provided here.

Civil Hospital of Guadalajara “Dr. Juan I. Menchaca”

The hospital has launched a campaign to detect peanut allergy, offering free testing on 11 and 12 April for the citizens of metropolitan Guadalajara. Dr. Martín Bedolla Barajas, of the Division of Internal Medicine, interviewed with UDG Noticias.

Hospital Universitario de Guadalajara (Spain) and Alerguada (Asociación de Alérgicos a Alimentos de Guadalajara)
Dr. Arantza Vega and Dr. Bélen Mateo of University Hospital in Guadalajara, with Margo Pina of Alerguada (Food Allergy Association of Guadalajara), discussed food sensitivity and food allergy concerns including risk of anaphylaxis and the special needs of children during a press conference in Guadalajara, Spain on 8 April. The event was covered by Canal 19 TV (Channel 19), “Guadalajara celebra la Semana Mundial de la Alergia” (Guadalajara celebrates World Allergy Week).

Murdoch Childrens Research Institute
The Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, the University of Melbourne and the University of Western Australia are participating in World Allergy Week through outreach activities. A new alliance is soon to be launched, the Centre for Research Excellence in Paediatric Food Allergy and Food-related Immune Disorders. “Research … has shown that food allergy and eczema may be the gateway disease. Infants with a food allergy are five times more likely to develop respiratory allergic diseases later in life.” Experts at these institutions in Australia are available for interviews during World Allergy Week.
Clinica de Alergia da Policlinica Geral do Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)
The clinic has launched a large outreach effort throughout the community and has lined up numerous patient education events and clinics related to food allergies that are free to the community.
National Federation of Respiratory Disease Associations (FENAER)
FENAER is a non-profit organization created in Madrid in December 2007 by four respiratory patient associations in Granada, Jaén, Badalona and Madrid, and whose main objectives are: to improve the care given to patients with respiratory disease, and increase awareness of the increasing impact of these diseases. As the association of food allergy and latex in Catalonia, Spain, Immunitas Vera is a private non-profit organization created to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. It was born as an initiative of a group of parents of food allergic children with the help of Dr. Jaume Miguel I Salses, a pediatrician, and formally constituted as an association in 2002 (Registration of associations of the Government of Catalonia, number 997). El Hospital del Vinalopó
The Allergy Services of Vonalopó Hospital in Alicante, Spain promoted education and outreach to the people with allergies to food with an emphasis on identifying and understanding specific allergies, how to avoid triggers, and how to correctly manage the disease. Hospital of the Federal University of Paraná (HC-UFPR)
The HC hosted an educational event on 12 April 12 on the Emergency Department premises. Physicians, residents and teachers addressed patients, caregivers and families about food allergies, their consequences and treatment alternatives and experts including Dr. Nelson Rosario of the Brazilian Association of Immunopathology and also the World Allergy Organization gave interviews to press.
