What inspired you to become more involved in WAO?
I first marked the WAO website as one of my favorite bookmarks. I connected with WAO's mission when I represented my society, the Egyptian Society of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, in the Member Societies meeting, in 1st Middle East-Asia Allergy Asthma Immunology Congress (MEAAAIC) in Dubai, 2009.

What would you like to share about the work of your national member society?
ESPAI's annual international congress is an important scientific event for allergists/immunologists in Egypt and the surrounding countries. Its journal, The Egyptian Journal of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, is a regular biannual publication of recent research and knowledge in the field.

What is one of your current special interests in the field of allergy/immunology?
Currently, I am coordinating a project by the WHO for nationwide surveillance for the vaccine derived poliovirus among primary immunodeficiency patients (iVDPV) and sensitization of physicians to the problem.
