Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center
(Baltimore, MD, United States)

Our mission at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center:

  1. To lead advances in the treatment of allergies, asthma and related disorders using an interdisciplinary approach between allergists, rhinologists (otolaryngologists), pulmonologists, and rheumatologists.
  2. Provide clinical excellence and compassionate care to patients from around the world.
  3. Promote state of the art research in advancing the understanding and treatment of allergic disease.

Our center is located at the Johns Hopkins Asthma and Allergy Center, a state of the art 5 story clinical and research facility. It is located on the Johns Hopkins Bayview campus which is home to the Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Pulmonary Medicine, and Rheumatology division, in addition to having a full service tertiary care hospital with comprehensive medical and surgical subspecialties, including Otolaryngology. The director of our World Allergy Organization Center of Excellence at Johns Hopkins is Jean Kim, MD PhD.

Our faculty’s research encompass expertise on mast cell disorders, neurophysiological mechanisms of cough, chronic urticaria, genetics and “omics” of allergic disorders, mast cell and basophil signal transduction and biology, allergen immunotherapy, immunotherapy for immunodeficiencies both primary and secondary, drug hypersensitivity, chronic rhinosinusitis, asthma, anaphylaxis and its treatment, COPD, vasculitis, autoimmune manifestations of airway disease, and outcomes research. We have both clinical and basic research fellowship training programs in all four divisions.

The allergy, pulmonary, rheumatology, and otolaryngology clinics each encounter over several thousand patients each year. We bring an interdisciplinary and multifaceted approach to managing some of the most medically challenging and complex allergic patients that come to Johns Hopkins from a national and international draw. With strength of our research, clinical experience and knowledge that the Allergy, Pulmonary Medicine, Rheumatology and Otolaryngology colleagues bring to the table, we have a team of exceptional clinicians and scientists to focus on these difficult to treat patients and will to help train the next generation of allergists.
