Description: The Division of Allergy, Clinical Immunology, and Rheumatology at the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), established in 1979 under the leadership of Professors Charles Kirov Naspitz and Dirceu Solé, represents a beacon of excellence in the fields of allergy and clinical immunology within pediatric care. Over the past four decades, this division has significantly contributed to the education and training of pediatricians, with over 300 specialists trained in Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology. A noteworthy achievement is the high rate of board certification among its allergy and immunology specialists through the Brazilian Association of Allergy and Immunology (ASBAI).

The division boasts a distinguished faculty, including four professors and affiliate professors, led by Professor Dirceu Solé, a prominent figure in the field and a former President of ASBAI, Latin American Society of Allergy, Asthma and immunology, and WAO’s Member at Large. The team's dedication to high-quality care and education is supported by a comprehensive team of healthcare professionals, including nurses, a nutrologist, dietitians, a physiotherapist, and administrative assistants, mentoring 12 specialization students annually.

Facilities include a well-equipped outpatient structure with seven examination rooms, specialized rooms for various tests and procedures, including skin prick tests, patch tests, immunotherapy, and spirometry/rhinomanometry, alongside an amphitheater for educational lectures. The division is integrated with Hospital São Paulo, facilitating access to a central laboratory and advanced diagnostic tools.

Research is a pivotal aspect of the division's activities, with laboratory capabilities encompassing ImmunoCAP and ISAC for allergy testing, and advanced instruments for flow cytometry. Collaborative research spans multiple disciplines, enhancing the division's contribution to the field.

The division conducts approximately 800 monthly consultations, offering a comprehensive range of care within its specialty. It is also part of the Jeffrey Modell network, emphasizing its role in diagnosing, treating, and educating on primary immunodeficiency disorders. The implementation of screening tests for inborn errors of immunity (IEI) has further solidified its commitment to patient care.

Educationally, the division actively participates in the training of MD and PhD candidates, contributing significantly to academic and professional development in allergy and clinical immunology. Access to leading journals in the field through a platform provided by the Ministry of Education underscores the division's commitment to staying at the forefront of medical research and education.

In summary, the Division of Allergy, Clinical Immunology, and Rheumatology at UNIFESP has established itself as a cornerstone in the advancement of pediatric allergy and clinical immunology through its unwavering commitment to education, research, and patient care. Its impressive legacy and ongoing dedication to excellence ensure its vital role in shaping the future of pediatric healthcare in these specialized fields."
